Addiction and recovery counseling in Laguna Beach.

Willpower was never the missing piece.

Compassionate, non-judgmental support for addiction and recovery, for the person in it and for the people who love them. No shame, no lectures, just an honest place to do the work.

Whatever you're leaning on to get through, whether it's alcohol, a substance, or a behavior that's quietly taken over more of your life than you meant it to, it almost certainly started as a solution. A way to take the edge off, to feel something or feel less, to get through a night. The trouble is that the thing that once helped is now the thing that hurts, and somewhere in there it stopped feeling like a choice.

So we don't start with shame, because shame is fuel, not a brake. We start with understanding: what the substance or the habit has been doing for you, and what it's been costing. Recovery isn't only putting the thing down. It's building a life you actually want to stay present for, so that staying down becomes possible.

What the work looks like

How we support recovery

This is outpatient therapy that walks alongside your recovery. Here's the shape of it, without the lectures.

  1. We get the real picture

No judgment, no script. We look honestly at what's happening, what you're using and why, what's already been tried, and what you actually want your life to look like on the other side of this.

  2. We work on what's underneath

Often there's pain the substance was managing: anxiety, trauma, depression, loss. We work with that directly, because recovery holds a lot better when the thing being medicated finally gets tended to.

  3. We build a life that competes with it

Staying present gets easier when there's something worth being present for. We help you rebuild the connections, structure, and meaning that use tends to hollow out, so the pull loosens its grip.

  4. We coordinate, we don't go it alone

We work alongside your other supports, a physician, a group, a program, a sponsor, so the care fits together instead of pulling in different directions.

An honest note about what we are, and what we aren't.

  • No shame here

You will not be lectured or made to feel like a case. You'll be met as a person doing hard work.

  • Confidential by design

Full-length sessions and real privacy, with no diagnostic label required to reach out.

  • Outpatient support

We support recovery through therapy. We are not a detox or a treatment facility.

  • We'll point the way

If a higher level of care is the right call, we'll help you find it, not hand you off.

Who this is for

For the person in it, and the people who love them

The person struggling

Whether you're sure you have a problem, or just quietly worried about how much you're relying on something, you don't need to hit a bottom to deserve support. Earlier is easier, and reaching out is not a confession, it's a start.

The people around it

Living with someone else's addiction has its own grief and its own patterns, the walking on eggshells, the covering, the exhaustion that comes from loving someone you can't fix. Family and codependency support is part of this work too.

For a lot of people, this work runs alongside individual therapy, a private hour that's only about you and the pattern you're trying to change. When addiction has reached into the whole household, family therapy gives everyone a place to say the hard thing and start untangling the roles the addiction handed out. That family work is part of what we do here, and its own page will carry the full picture when it goes live.

One honest reminder: if you or someone you love is in immediate danger, please use the crisis resources listed further down this page. We are glad to be a steady part of recovery, and we are not an emergency service. When the moment isn't a crisis, we'd be glad to hear from you.

Questions people ask

Addiction and recovery support, answered

I've tried therapy before and it didn't really help. Why would this be different?

That is worth talking about, not a reason to give up. When someone tells us therapy did not help before, we do not assume they were resistant. Usually it just was not the right fit. Fit is exactly what the [free Get to Know Us call](/get-started) is for.

How fast can I be seen?

Usually within 24 hours. We hold time for people who are ready to start rather than keeping a long waitlist. Start with a free 20-minute call, or call (949) 357-3587. Ready when you are. [Book your free call](/get-started). *End of FAQ knowledge base. 28 page blocks plus a master /faq, \~100 questions. Every answer is in the approved brand voice (warm, direct, real), free of banned words, and leads with a direct answer for AI answer-engine citation. Rate specifics live only on /fees. Mark up each page's FAQ block with FAQPage schema matching the visible text exactly. Resolve the three gold-flagged items (Christian-counseling claim, Beach Therapy scope, addiction-recovery clinician) before those pages publish.*

Should I consider medication, therapy, or both?

Which one is right for you? That's a conversation to have with your prescribing physician, not something we decide for you. Here's what therapy can offer either way: it addresses the patterns and the story underneath the symptom, which medication alone doesn't touch. Some clients do both. Some do just one. Either way, we're glad to work alongside whatever your medical team recommends.
