Accessibility
Accessibility at Laguna Beach Counseling.
We want this site to work for everyone who needs it, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard on its own, magnification, or voice control. Here is where we actually stand, what is still on the list, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
What we are aiming for
Our target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That is a target we build and test against, not a certificate we hold. Nobody has audited or certified this site, and we are not claiming it meets any legal standard. We are telling you what we aim for and how close we think we are.
What we have done
The parts we have built in
- Structure a screen reader can follow Semantic HTML throughout, one main heading per page, and headings in order underneath it. Real lists, real tables, real buttons, with nothing important hidden inside a script.
- Keyboard operable Every interactive part of the site works without a mouse, including the main menu and the answer accordions. A skip link jumps you straight to the content, and the menu closes on Escape and returns focus to the button that opened it.
- Visible focus Anything you can tab to shows a clear focus outline, so you can always see where you are on the page.
- Images described Every meaningful image carries alt text written from the actual photograph. Decorative marks are hidden from assistive technology rather than described.
- Motion respected If your device asks for reduced motion, the site honors it site-wide. Nothing on the site autoplays.
- Contrast checked Text and interface colors are checked against the AA contrast thresholds, including the lighter states.
- No accessibility overlay We deliberately do not use one of the widget or toolbar products that promise instant accessibility. They tend to interfere with the screen readers and other tools people already have set up, and they do not fix the underlying markup. We would rather build the page properly.
Where we fall short
An honest list is more useful than a confident one, so here is what we know is outstanding right now.
- Our booking scheduler is a third-party embed. Appointment booking runs through Calendly, which we embed on the home, contact, and get started pages. We do not control what happens inside it. If the scheduler is difficult for you, please call or email instead and we will book the time for you ourselves.
- The contact form is a preview and does not send. It is marked as such on the page and its fields are switched off, but if you reach it with a screen reader you will still meet form controls that cannot be used. Phone, email, and the scheduler all work today.
- Some images do not reserve their space before they load, so a few blocks can shift slightly as a page finishes loading. That is on our list to fix.
- Our client forms are PDFs, and two of them are not built for screen readers. The intake, consent, COVID consent, and complaint-notice documents carry accessibility tagging; the confidentiality and cancellation policy and the authorization to disclose form do not, and none of the six has been verified with a screen reader. If you cannot use them, call or email and we will get you the same information another way, or go through the forms with you.
- We have not tested with real assistive technology or with disabled users. The work so far has been careful building and checking, not user testing, and we would rather say that plainly than imply an audit we have not done.
Found a barrier? Please tell us
If something on this site blocked you, we would genuinely like to know, and you do not need to explain it in technical terms. Tell us the page and what happened, and we will take it from there.
- Phone: (949) 357-3587
- Email: Kay@LagunaBeachCounseling.com
We aim to reply within two business days, and we will tell you what we can fix and roughly when. If something is blocking you from reaching us at all, calling is the most reliable route.
This statement was last reviewed on 14 August 2026. We review it periodically and whenever we make a significant change to the site.
Rather just talk to a person?
A free 15 to 20 minute call is the simplest way in, and we can handle the booking for you if the scheduler is in your way.
